The Eyes Have It
Of all the senses, most people would consider sight to be the most important. It literally shapes the way we see the world and our lives, so it is important that we preserve it by having regular eye exams and correcting vision problems in a timely manner.
Most of us don't think about our eyes much unless we're having problems seeing or constant headaches, but a complete eye exam at least every two years is highly recommended.
If you wear contact lenses, some states require you to have an exam yearly before renewing your prescription. Your optical doctor will not only evaluate the condition of your eyes and prescribe any glasses, contacts or other corrective measures necessary, but can also detect early signs of general health issues, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
There are generally three stages to an eye exam:
- Vision tests to determine visual capabilities and measure your prescription, if necessary
- Eye movement tests to measure how well your 12 eye muscles move
- Eye health tests to check for eye disease and help diagnose any general health problems.
Don’t let poor vision ruin your outlook on life. There are so many types of corrective solutions available - from contact lenses and eye glasses to laser surgery - that a visit to your eye care professional will give you a vision of how good your vision can be. |
